If you would like the instructions that we used for any of these activities, you can find them on the librarian's blog here.

Photo/Video Scavenger Hunt

The students were given a list of photos and videos to capture for the scavenger hunt. They could use their own device, but we had iPads ready for anyone who needed to borrow it. Each photo and video was assigned points. If students could reach 1800 points in fifteen minutes, each member of the team would win a prize.  The pictures below show you some of the scenes that they had to collect to win a prize: caught jumping in air, all team members sitting in one chair, watching a meteor approach, etc.

Origami Cubes

Students had several sizes of origami paper from which to choose and many colors and prints. Students needed to fold six different pieces of paper, and then put them together to form the cube. They were challenged to build eight cubes to create an infinity cube, but there was not enough time during lunch to complete that.

Anti-Tech Day with Finger Labyrinths and Mandalas

This isn't the first TTW that we planned a day of anti-tech, and this time we played new age relaxing music and asked everyone to keep voices down during the lunch period. There were two activities available. The first was a finger labyrinth. Students had several styles of labyrinths to choose from and could color them if they so chose to do. The other choice was a mandala. The students had many designs from which to choose.

Mosaics with Rubik's Cubes

The library "borrowed" a set of 100 Rubik's Cubes from You Can do the Cube. Online were templates for the mosaics that could be printed out. The middle school completed Starry, Starry Night by Van Gogh, and the 8th-12th grade put together Mona Lisa by Da Vinci. It took collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving to finish the mosaics. The library gets to keep the cubes for 6 weeks, so students will have the opportunity to make more mosaics before the box is sent back.

Now Showing at your library: Animated Shorts

Traditionally, during TTW, we show the Oscar nominated animated shorts. This year, the Oscar was given to Kobe Bryant's Dear Basketball. The students loved the softness of the animation that was done as sketches and the message. It was a favorite over the other nominated films including Lou and Garden Gate. Garden Gate was extremely macabre, but the surprise ending definitely was a surprise.

Online Guess the Title Game:

To play this game, you had to read the first page from twenty different novels. If you played and got 15 correct, then you would win a prize. Forty played the game, and twenty nine were able to name 15 titles.
