Guess the Number of Candies in the Jar:

Picture
Sixth grader hoping that her guess is the right one
Students had to guess the number of candy corn that filled a large plastic jar. There were 2049 candies. Tyson Kauffman came closest with his guess of 2000. The five students who came closest without going over received an author signed book and a portion of the candy from the jar.

Out of This World Guessing Game:

This year the students played an Out of this World guessing game. All the answers to the questions were either worlds where book or movie characters lived or the name of the character who lived in another world. We had double down on Thursday so the students had a chance to win twice. On Friday, we had everybody wins Friday so that no one left the library without a prize. In the pictures below you can see how enthusiastic the students were to play the game.

Picture day gave the students a chance to dress as if they came from another world:

The students selected from assorted hats, accessories and costumes to transform themselves. The idea was to put yourself in a world that is not our own. Once the pictures were taken, Ms. Kahn used free photo-editing software, Pixlr, to cut out the background and used Pixlr-o-matic to add the effects to make the pictures look otherworldly.
